End Of An Era

So the day has finally arrived when Geoff retires, nearly fifty years in accountancy, man and boy. I'll miss his experience but I'm not sure where I'll find another colleague as sexist, racist and with no knowledge of sport, music, the arts or grasp of economics and politics as he, doesn't, possess.

That aside I hope he has a happy retirement, the last ten years or so have been difficult for him both personally, as he coped with his wife's serious illness, and professionally, as he coped with being a dinosaur in an ever changing world. Never one to question anything, he was a model citizen for Labour, the ultimate box ticker. He was also an employers dream being completely lacking in any sense of workers rights whilst at the same time retaining the right to insult work colleagues on a daily basis.

As a fellow professional he leaves with my respect, as a person he lives with my complete contempt.

50 years eh, blotters, ink and quills, ranks of clackity clacking hand operated adding devices, rolls and rolls of paper, green eye shields, sleeve bands, sock suspenders, jumpers for goalposts...

Andy Gray is available...and it seems he would fit right in!
