Somethings I just don't understand.

Yesterday would have been my brother's forty ninth birthday, something that I was aware of from the moment I opened my eyes at just after 6 a.m. Nothing new there, the 7th May will always be "his day".

However something strange happened last night, I was looking through one of my desk draws looking for a notebook and found a Travelcard. The first thing that caught me eye was the price, £33.50, the second thing was the date, 6 February 2004. It seemed strange that this ticket should still be in the drawer in the first place and even more strange that it should be there on top of the notebook I was looking for. It took me no more than a couple of seconds though before I remembered why I had a ticket for that date - it was the day after my brother nearly died and was only saved by the quick actions of an off duty surgeon who performed an emergency trachiectomy to stop my brother choking to death as he lay in an empty hospital ward awaiting tests on the cancer tumour. I caught the train to London the next morning to visit him.

Sometimes the hairs on the back of this atheists neck stand on end when things like this happen.

Wierd indeed. I agree entirely about "Sometimes the hairs on the back of this atheists neck stand on end when things like this happen."

I hate it when somebody has a story just like the one you tell...but here goes: when I lived in Venzuela I had a month in the UK each year. One such year my granny died, I had visited her in hospital several times during my month holiday (and she always told me I shouldn't bother, as relatives do). A month back in Ven when I was told she had died, "no, it was expected", "no, I don't need to go back", "no, I'm fine" etc.

About two years later a package arrived. I looked at it and it was identical to the one she used to send; I looked at the writing, it was hers, I opened it, it was from her (thinking should I get to the church fast and pray)...

Simple explanation, the package had been mislaid in the London office refurbishment and had sat in a closet with other paraphernalia and when cleared out, being addressed to me, it was just sent on, without a thought (and why not)...but God, what a fright.

Now that really is a hairs on the neck moment. I like sharing those stories and don't think of it as bragging or whatever so don't worry.

The strange thing about the rail ticket is that I open that drawer everytime I blog because it has a notebook on it with my 'how to do it' instructions how to link to pages/articles etc - why haven't I seen it before?
