Refreshingly Honest

So many managers and pundits offer patronising platitudes at the end of a match that you wonder why they bother. Terry Butcher the former England defender and manager of Inverness Caley is different though. His reaction after the 1-4 home defeat to Rangers today was refreshing.

Interviewer: How good were Rangers?
Butcher: Very good. They beat us 4-1. It was four not five or six ?
Interviewer: Yes 4. Half way through the second half you changed things and brought on a right sided midfielder, was that because three of the goals had come down that side?
Butcher: No, it's because unfortunately SPL legislation doesn't allow me to make nine substitutions, otherwise I would have done.
Interviewer: Are there any positives you can take from this?
Butcher: (pauses) No.

Incidentally an incident in this match will re-open the whole goal line technology debate because Lee McCulloch scored a fifth goal that was at least a yard over the line if not more but which none of the officials were in position to confirm.

I like to think I would be as honest.

By the way...51 years since Spuds won the league title...now it's 5-2.
