The Blasczykowski Scream

It reminded me of the famous Marco Tardelli celebration in Madrid back in 1982 and I know my choice of title is not very subtle given what Jakub Blaszczykowski experienced as a child but it is the most iconic image of the competition so far.

'Kuba' as his name is displayed on his Borussia Dortmund shirt, witnessed the murder of his mother by his father when he as just 10 years old. He was then brought up, along with his younger brother, by his Grandparents. "Earlier in my life, it was something I never wanted to mention. I tried to forget it, but I couldn''t. But now, I am mature enough to speak about it," he recently told Polish press.

The left foot shot was as pure a kick of a football as you are likely to see and it earned the co-hosts a much needed point against Russia.
