Photographs I Wish I'd Taken...continued

This post can't really do the above photograph justice, although clicking on it should open it up for a better appreciation.

It's a merit winner from the 24th annual National Geographic Traveler magazine photographic competition which this year attracted over 12,000 entrants.

The photograph is best described in the words of the person who took it Ken Bower:

"The village of G·sadalur and the island of Mykines in the background. Until a tunnel was built in 2004, the 16 residents living in G·sadalur had to take a strenuous hike or horseback over the steep 400 meter mountain in order to make it to the other villages. It was a rare sunny day in the Faroe Islands and I had to wait until the clouds rolled in to provide some softer light. I decided to go with a long exposure (1 minute 10 seconds) to illustrate the force of the wind and a serene sea among the isolated islands."

The winners gallery is here The Faroe Islands shot is my favourite at the moment but I can see that it's a position that will change every time I visit the site, truly inspirational.

It's a great picture, Paul. I also like the underwater surf and the cottage at night with the Northern Lights (I think) in the background.

I think many of us can say we wish we'd taken any of those photographs!

I agree, all of the finalists are superb.

Nikon have sent me a photograph of Roker Pier in a storm but I can't copy and paste it so I will try and find it on the web.
