Why the system is broken

There was a lot of huffing and puffing on the news last night (on both radio and TV) about the Olympic and Paralympic athletes who had been awarded honours in the New Years List but surely the biggest scandal has been the awarding of honours for what the public would regard as failure in public office rather than the differentiating between able and disabled athletes achievements.

Of course conspiracy theorists might wonder whether the collapse of the banking system on Hector Sants watch is actually considered a failure by our masters.

Yes, this and one or two other failures getting gongs and big pay-offs. Scandal is the right word.

I can't see how he can get awarded in any 'services to' category. Even if I don't agree with somebody's politics I can usually see why the award has been made but not in this case.

Perhaps the Honours system is merely a reflection of the way the rest of society works. How may "top" executives, in both the public and private sectors, have been given massive payouts when thier organisations have "let them go"?
