Windsurfing Championships Urgently Seek Wind
The UK Windsurfing Association held a round of its 2009 Championships at Steamer Point on Saturday. Steamer Point is between Mudeford and Highcliffe and is apparently a good place to windsurf.
Unfortunately the phrase 'if you hold it they will come,' applied only to the competitors this weekend as there was less than an ants fart of wind. The person in charge of the PA System sounded ever more desperate as the promise of something racing up the English Channel to push the boards along dwindled with every passing minute. Race after race was abandoned, the cause was 'lack of wind', which by the time of the third or fourth cancellation had become 'lack of breeze.'
The competitors weren't best pleased, but it's one of those situations where there isn't really anybody to blame, one of them describing the conditions a half mile or so off the shoreline as being 'complete crap.'
The photograph above made me think of the scene from Apocalypse Now where the Hueys fly in over the beach and we discover that 'Charlie don't surf.'

Bit awkward really, not a lot they could do...maybe windsurf a la waterski
Thank you!
Yes, get them towed behind a speedboat - that would have made interesting spectating.
