The Eyes Have It
The first of the three-part annual diabetes check-up was a success, my eyesight has not deteriorated at all over the past year and, including the routine eyesight checks which don't include the diabetes scan, they haven't got any worse in the last three years. I actually have very poor sight in the right eye as a result of a childhood accident and so the left one has to do double the work.
Given that most of my working days are spent staring at a computer screen I'm surprised that neither my eyes have got worse or my head has exploded. I now have to wait for the results of the photographic screening, that comes by post in about three weeks time.
Poor old Kris Boyd eh? One minute your blowing your nose, the next you are being told you have a fractured eye socket. He suffered a blow to the head in the Old Firm clash on Sunday when he headed the back of Landry N'Guemo's head and was laid out for a good minute or so. There was obviously more damage than it looked on Sunday (more than meets the eye boom boom) still must be a shock when something like this happens. Boyd's taking his SFA coaching badges and having watched him play dozens of times for Rangers you have to wonder what sort of coach he will make.
He is also in the last season of his current contract and effectively becomes a free agent on 31st January if he and the club don't agree a new contract. Given the financial situation that Rangers are in at the moment, they were the only club in Scotland not to sign anybody during the summer, he will have to take a pay cut or move on. If he moved anywhere in Scotland it would be a move downwards in his career but he could make an impact for a Championship side in England, I have a feeling though that he will stay.

I had the eye thing making a try-saving tackle against reading in...erm...1885 I think! Well, a fractured cheek bone, came up like elephant man!
Talking of Diabtetes (well, you were!) glad things seem Ok. I was staying this last weekend at my aunt's in Wisconsin and she has just been diagnosed with it...all those things you and Shy mentioned, eyes, feet, headaches etc. She tested my blood sugar and - sorry to gloat - but it's perfect!
That's it, gloat away and mention Wisconsin!
I haven't had a headache for six years, because I take asprin every morning following my heart attack - you wouldn't think just one asprin could do that.

Got my blood sugar result last Friday. Not good, I'm afraid, and now I'm on Metformin for the duration. Still, at least the likes of us get regular check ups that most blokes our age wouldn't entertain, not to mention the free prescriptions, eye tests etc.
Sorry to hear that Shy...from what my aunt was telling me she's set to loose a lot of weight (indirectly) as she has to steer clear of not just sugar but carbs generally: pasta, bread etc. Very few fizzy pops etc (and over there they drink them like water)
Paul, do you have 'special' part dosage aspirin? Here they sell 87mg (or soemthing equally "uneven") pills (instead of the usual 100, 200mg etc), I guess it must be a measured dose just for "maintenance".
Hi Shy - sorry to hear that, yes we do get regulatr check-ups, free this and that and we are 'lucky' in that regard.
