I Believe A Man Can Fly

There's a saying in sports photography that if you wait the action will come to you, there's also a certain realism in believing that some days you are going to be in the right place at the right time. Tuesday morning at Barton on Sea was one of those times.

Three Para gliders were taking advantage of the strong south westerly and gliding up and down a two mile stretch of coast. It was fascinating to see the heights these guys were getting. With a lot of action shots you really don't know what you've got until you upload the disc onto the computer, but I'm quite pleased with the shot above. The one below was taken when the glider above turned and came back towards us gliding into the wind and was about fifty feet over our heads and doing around twenty five miles an hour.

Nathalie thinks he looks slightly scary but I think he was actually smiling for the camera.

Lovely clear pics...perhaps he was grimacing ("ooh I need a dump, I know I drop in close to the cliff and ...oh no there's a couple of photographers...ooooh")

P.S. that is bloody fast to be shooting along, imagine how fsat it felt to him!

Thanks for the pics comment. Not only was he going fast but he was going silently as well.
