That's It, I'm Outta Here

There's an episode of Seinfeld where George Costanza is desperate to leave everybody in the room or his office on a high after telling them a funny story or accomplishing a task so that he can say, "That's it, I'm outta here."

Today saw the resignation of Marcello Lippi, bringing the total of managers who are no longer in charge of the countries they were in the World Cup (which only ended on Sunday) to 16, a man who has certainly earned the right to utter George's line.

Lippi's record is as follows:

With Juventus

5 Italian League Championships: 1994/95, 1996/97, 1997/98, 2001/02, 2002/03
1 Coppa Italia: 1994/95
Runners up: 2001/02, 2003/04
4 Italian Supercups: 1995/96, 1997/98, 2002/03, 2003/04
Runners up: 1998/99
1 European Cup: 1995/96
Runners up: 1996/97, 1997/98, 2002/03
UEFA Cup Runners up: 1994/95
1 European Supercup: 1996/97
1 Intercontinental Cup: 1996/97

With Italy - 2006 World Cup - 2 Defeats in 2 years, unbeaten in 24 games.

Lippi said he was retiring because of the personal abuse he had suffered as a result of his involvement with Juventus and the current match-fixing scandal. Personally I think he deserves any time off he wants.

What a record...i know it's Italy so the big three or 4 tend to win most years but the interantional record speaks volumes too, even taking into account 30% were probbly against no-hopers.

Think England should try for him or Klinnsmann...the new guy is just another who doesn't inspire me with confidence...I hope he proves me well off the mark.

Apparently Lippi is still hoping for the Man.U job.

One of the reasons the FA didn't want to interview Lippi after Keegan went, was because he can't speak English. Well somebody told me that he can speak good English but chooses not to - a bit like Michel Platini!
