I'm taking a break from speech based radio for a while. It's been a long time coming but I've become more and more disillusioned by Five Live over the past couple of months and to be honest the hectoring style of Jim Naughtie and John Humphrey's on the Today programme annoys me only slightly less than the schoolgirl giggling of Shelagh Fogerty to Nicky Campbell's fifth form sense of humour.
To be honest I can only listen during work hours if I'm travelling between clients so it's the before work, after work and at weekends that will be curtailed. Five Live's problems have been covered by all the good folk of the Station Board who have now pitched up at Gavin's excellent board for the deluded, bewildered and disappointed.
For myself I find Saturday mornings after 9 o'clock utterly dispiriting, listening to Eamonn Holmes, Beverley Turner and Fighting Talk are enough to make most men and women of sound mind and body contemplate murder, or at least throwing their radio in the nearest rubbish bin. Sunday mornings with Garry Partridge is woeful, I cannot believe that the BBC really think this is the best man to present the flagship Sunday sports review, was Adrian Chiles washing the car when the producers phoned him and Jane said he'd left the country?
Anyway I've gone back to music for the time being, BBC's own Radio 6 is good as are numerous independent stations, I will make an exception to the no speech rule by dipping into Radio 7 on the odd night - there's still a small child in me who finds Round The Horne funny, despite the jokes being as old (if not older) as me.
For those posters, both old and Gavin's, who persist with 5Live you have my admiration - I hope it gets better for you.

Paul, I've almost given up on Radio 5 and I hate the Today programme.
I listen to Classical Music, BBC 7 and Oneword.
Same as Curmy except I still have to find a way to get into Oneword...and though its still BBC based I do look at and listen to as much from stations not really aimed at England.
Of course Rupe and myself listen a little to LBC.
I like BBC 7, the drama series and crime and thriller strands are excellent for a wet and windy night in.
Well isn't life full of coincidences? I too have returned to music radio for the majority of the time. I am gradually working my way through various stations, local and national in the hope of finding one or two that I can rely upon. Proving a little difficult so far! However it has made a nice change and I have enjoyed singing along to any oldies that are being played although Mr Mags would say it wasn't an enjoyable experience for him!.
I've been keeping up to date with the news by reading more. A more sedate pace now I am getting so old.
