Another One Bites The Dust

Yes you can call me hypocritical but there's something rather sad about Liverpool joining the seemingly never ending list of football clubs owned by overseas interests. Liverpool has, for my lifetime, been the most English of clubs - the 18 titles, 5 European Cups etc - it has always appeared to be the club that had the closest affinity with its supporters.

Of course as supporters we don't really care who owns our club as long as they bring a certain integrity to that part of our lives to which we are attached from birth to death. We support them and give them an emotional commitment probably rivalled only by that we give to our spouses and children.

Nobody seems to know whether or not Liverpool needed to do this now, there was certainly no time lost between the Dubai deal falling through and the American one being set-up and finalised - I hope whoever did the due diligence work did their job properly!

Football seems a lot healthier if the team from the red half of Liverpool is doing well, perhaps the cash will help with the new stadium and new players so that they can break the Manchester United-Arsenal stranglehold on the Premiership, Chelsea have a couple of fingers around its throat at the moment.

Looks like they're going down the road of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em".

Personally, I think it's a shame and I can't help wondering they'll be in ten years time. Will the Americans get fed up and look for a new toy?

You don't make money from football - never hve done - so it's really a rich man's plaything - read an article recently about Mr Abramovic turning away from the English game and investing elsewhere. That shouldn't hurt Chelsea in the short term because I presume he would write off his loan but in the long term it would be interesting.
