Snow in February Shock Hits U.K

Has anybody at the BBC ever opened an atlas and seen exactly where the U.K is in relation to the rest of Europe? England lies roughly between 50 and 55 degrees North, that puts it further north than Austria, Switzerland, the top half of Ukraine, half of Russia, half of Poland, it puts us further north than any of the U.S.A and further north than the inhabitable parts of Canada.

But guess what, those stupid simpleton bastards at BBC Radio Thicky (sorry 5Live) are surprised when it snows in February. What are these people on?

"Text us in your bad weather story," Nicky Campbell asked at 5 to 7 this morning.
"Fuck off Campbell you wanker, another British soldier has been killed in Iraq, get a grip."

"Tell us how you got to work today."
"Oh pleezzzzee piss off - this isn't Scott v Amundsen - it's an island off northern Europe struggling to get to grips with reality."

For a nation so obsessed with the weather we are crap at it aren't we? Hot summer? Blimey that's a shocker - Cold Winter? Quell Surprise.

It's the media that can't handle the weather, they think the weather is news, no it's not - the weather is weather - it happens. This winter local authorities were the best prepared they have ever been, record numbers of gritting lorries made sure that most roads were passable, trains not only ran on time, some ran early, schools were closed as a matter of routine in some parts of the country because teachers, not pupils, couldn't get in.

The most snow that fell in England today was 10cm or six fingers depth if you prefer imperial - New York had 100cm - that's 3 feet - in eight hours!

This country really does get the media it deserves sometimes, but today it got the media that likes to insult its intelligence.

I agree 100% : the media have ridiculously over-reacted to the weather for a while now and I think many of us realise the "dumbed down" nature of R5L. "Text us your bad weather situation"... How much lower can you get?

I was annoyed when I wrote this and I hadn't calmed down when I posted it! I am stunned by the drivel that is passed off as news. What will happen when 5Live moves to Manchester?

I'm not sure a move to Manchester will make much difference. It might be a case of "different city, same drivel"
