Despite my self-enforced embargo against 5Live I caught the last forty five mninutes of 6-0-6 last night and couldn't believe Alan Green or the other Liverpool callers attitude towards the relegation battle. I couldn't believe either the arrogrance of the condescending attitude of Alan Green and the other Liverpool supporters towards the clubs at the bottom of the league.
Callers were phoning-in to defend Liverpool's decision to play a weakened team against Fulham and Green was defending them saying that Benitez would look stupid if one of the first team, namely Gerrard, had got injured and would have to miss the trip to Athens and the defeat against Milan. Don't these people understand the concept of leagues? Don't they undertstand why the league is 38 games long and not 34 so that Liverpool can be guaranteed 4th place - obviously Liverpool will never finish 1st and qualify the proper way for a tournament that has the word 'Champions' in its title.
Every game affects every team. Putting out weakened teams when it suits is completely counter to the idea of a league but that goes by the wayside when Liverpool's interests are at heart. When do Chelsea ever put out a weakened side in the league or Manchester United? They don't because they understand the concept.
I am so pissed off with Liverpool I have lost a lot of respect for their manager.

Didn't hear 606 but I have to say it really does depend on your point of view. Arsene fields reserve teams with a certain success, no doubt Man U will send the reserves out in the week against Chelsea who don't field reserve teams because they don't have reserves but would if the reserves would only stay there. When the opportunity presents itself then there are not many managers who would chose not to if they had the resources.
It's a toughie really.
Man.Utd can field reserves against Chelsea because the result is irrelevant but I expect them to field a full strength team against us.
Good article by Steve Heighway last Friday about the need to scrap reserves because they don't serve any purpose anymore.
I so agree with your post, Paul. I was listening to 606 on Saturday night and Alan Green is nothing short of being a TOTAL hypocrite.
He is the one who berated Man U/Sheffield Utd etc for fielding weak teams in the FA Cup - demeans the Cup he said - and quite right.
Liverpool though fielding weak teams against Portsmouth (OK - nothing much riding on that particular game) BUT fielding a weak team against Fulham y'day (and I want Fulham to stay up) is disgraceful. I have EVERY sympathy with managers of Wigan, Sheffield Utd, Charlton etc.
"Oh" said Alan Green, "Rafa is preparing for the CL Final". Hello Alan! It's not for another two weeks and a bit!
Mr. Sarnia (who doesn't normally listen) was listening with me last night and just said "this bloke's awful". He's right. He is.
...so ending up 4th and letting Arsenal be 3rd should be no problems then :-)
Completely agree with you Balders. I hope Sir Alex does feel a full side against us at the weekend as it would be unfair on the other teams at the bottom if he didn't. If we go down as a result then it won't be because of that one game but because of how we've played the rest of the season. Greeny was appalling on Saturday - pusillanimous excuses for a disgraceful decision. If Fulham sue us (which of course they won't now they're safe) I hope the Eggman sues them and Liverpool back.
Well Paul and David - I was so cross about it (and I'm not a supporter of any of the teams who could still go down) that I phoned 606 last night and was the second caller on. Poor old Ray Stubbs didn't know what to say!
