The last time the name Lewis entered the British public's consciousness was when Inspector Morse had a sidekick whose surname it was, now times have changed. There's a new kid on the block and he's fast, good looking, British and a winner - there must be something wrong in that statement somewhere.

I used to a be a big fan of Formula One, going way back to the mid seventies when I was a teenager and used to watch it round a girlfriend's house. I had a cousin who drove Formula Ford and another cousin who was called Alan Jones, he wasn't an Australian F1 World Champion though. I lost interest in Formula One about six years ago I guess after the Ferrari team were found guilty of breaching certain bodywork rules, took the FIA to the sports court in Paris and won - despite the evidence that they had, how can I put this, cheated.

My love affair with the sport ended instantly, I hadn't watched race all the way through until a fortnight ago when the Canadian Grand Prix was on, in fact the only time I had watched any part of a race was in 2002 when we were on holiday in Holland and co-incidentally caught part of the Canadian Grand Prix. I found myself sat in front of the television watching cricket and during an advert break on Sky skipped channels and stayed with the Canadian Grand Prix from parade lap to victory lap.

This weekend was the American Grand Prix from Indianapolis and again, having finished the three course meal I cooked for us on Fathers Day, I found myself sat in front of the television again at race start time. Perhaps it was a case of the race coming to me rather than searching the race out that made it more enjoyable and rekindled my enthusiasm.

I don't know when the next race is and I don't intend to find out, if I happen to be sat in front of the television with nothing better to do and it's on I might just have another look.

Paul, the bit that caught my eye in that post was that you cooked lunch on Father's Day! I hope that Janice had a good excuse and if being a bad cook is considered a good excuse then she should have taken you out!

I've watched the last 2 grand prix having not seen one since the mid 80's. I just hope that success doesn't spoil him.

Hi Mags - no Janis is a great cook.

I had agreed to cook a three course meal on Saturday but Nathalie then got an invite to a nine hour party so I said I'd do it on Sunday, knowing that Nathalie would be tired and she had about four hours homework to do.

I was so keen and prepared that we actually ate an hour earlier than planned. And in case you are interested: Chicken satay with peanut sauce followed by Spicy lamb burgers served with vegetable rice on a bed of spinach and then aniseed jelly with fruits of the forest and strawberries. Oh and a bottle of Anjou rose.

Oh Paul...where's my invite? I have actually lost quite a bit of weight of late so a bit of indulgence wouldn't go amiss. I adore Anjou Rose in the summer. Sort of slips down like water and before you know where you are a whole bottle has been drunk and the second one opened. Wonderful!

What worries me re Hamilton is where does he go from here...OK, I know the 'season' has a long way to go and he may nosedive at any time but he has finished on the podium in EVERY race so far, winning the last two...that is much, MUCH better than any driver ever, ever, never...so what's next?
