So How Was Your Holiday?

I've made the point for a few years of letting clients know in advance that I'm off for two weeks in the summer, two reasons for doing so really: firstly they know not to expect any communication from me during my holiday and secondly they don't phone up expecting me to be here and then struggle to get a coherent reply from one of my colleagues to a question I can probably answer in seconds.

Anyway, it seems that the clients aren't the problem as much as the staff. Despite leaving instructions for certain jobs to be completed in my absence, due to an end of August deadline, the work remained untouched, like last nights leftovers. Add to that the fact that one member of staff has managed to fall down the stairs at home this week, coincidentally the same week as her boyfriend is on holiday and she doesn't have any holiday left, and another has decided to play nurse to her sick niece - despite the presence of other family members, and it's not been the best return from a break I've had.

That said yesterday and today have been the best two working days I've had for months, I actually feel I've achieved something and can go home and relax for a couple of days before next weeks demands.

I know the feeling. Even when I'm "out-of-contact" I get calls everyday, difficult working with multiple time zones etc and there is ALWAYS something that REALLY can't wait...or not as the case nearly always is!!! grrr
