As far as the best roads are concerned, I've been on 1, 5 and 7 in the last 18 months. I'm on 7 fairly regularly (the A1, on the way to he Metro Centre) and if I take my daughter to the airport I go on 5.

Just some of the the locations of the worst ten fill me with dread : Oxford Circus sounds like a nightmare!

The A537 is without doubt a wonderful road for views however the flip side is that it does have a very high ratio of accidents!

As to SpagJunct, I never quite understand why so many people end up going the wrong way...the signs are massive! The views over the canal at Duddeston are quite depressing. Something else I don't understand; why on earth do people drive in central London? It take fifty times as long to get anywhere than using the tube.

I disagree vehemnetly with the M5 - I love it and in fact on my travels at least 3 different people (different nationalities) have remarked on it - not only a good drive but also wonderful viws....I guess if you'r eon it every day of get caught in the congestion as it joins the M6 then I guess that's what they mean.

Agree with Mags re London - seems ridiculous.

Good roads: know 3,4,6 and 9 fairly well plus number one from my walking/climbing/canoeing/'outward bound' days. Also I like the 303, the A37 from Yeovil to Dorchester whatever the road is that goes from the M5 to Barnstable in Devon and a few more...I actually enjoy driving!

I like the A31 Hogs Back on a crisp winter morning looking out across Hampshire and Surrey.

I also like the M25 at the Reigate Gap (or is it Redhill?)

Next week, the country's second favourite jam!

I have to say 9 on the best roads is a bit of an odd one. It is pretty, but the A248 which bypasses Guildford is far more beautiful.
