Sad, Very Sad

No, not Angelina Jolie but the fact that 80% of computer viruses each month are caused by hoax e-mails that purport to contain pictures of the naked Lara Croft and the viruses only get out because the attachments are opened! I mean I know that Jon Voight's daughter is one of natures outstanding areas of natural beauty but isn't clothed more sexy than naked? Among other actresses who are supposed to be naked are: Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Milla Jovovich and my very own favourite, a pixelated version of Lara Croft. Now who is the sadder, the person who creates these hoax e-mails or the hundreds of thousands of people who are greeted with this in their inbox:

Good morning, old chap!
Shocking video of nude Angelina Jolie. See it in your attachment.
Best Regards.

And then press to open the attachment.

We've been experiencing a rash of hoax e-mails at work. We've gone through the money from Nigeria, the car crash victim, the penis enlargement - in fact all the hoax e-mails only ever go to two people, I've never received one! Anyway, this week a colleague received one of the best yet, it was from an ex-marine who was in Basra and part of a platoon who uncovered an oil barrel containing all of Saddam's gold. Apparently the men decided that it was their duty to take the loot, unfortunately they need some help getting it back through the banking system. I mean when money laundering rules state that banks must report one-off transactions of over £10,000, a few million in gold coins is going to raise a few eyebrows. The best part of the email isn't the great yarn about derring-do's, no it's when you get to the bottom and see it's signed by Sergeant Dave. That's what I like about conmen, always like to add that little personal touch.

73 to 78 % off??? I usually get offers for an extra 10 of 15% !!!!

Seriously, though, I would tend to agree with Span. Surely by now people know not to touch these things with a barge pole?!?!?!?
