So What Now For The Toon?

He wasn't the preferred choice of the new owner, he wasn't the preferred choice of the fans and possibly the only person who thought he was the right man for the job was 'Big' Sam Allardyce himself.

I can't feel sorry for Newcastle fans, they are only slightly more delusional than Tottenham supporters, the idea that being a 'big-club' means you must have success. There are only three 'big-club's in England in terms of history, fans and trophies:Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, who between them attract a combined total of nearly 200,000 spectators for their home matches, have won the English league title more than forty times and who generally attract better players. Newcastle haven't won a proper trophy for nearly forty years and just because 60,000 people turn-up every fortnight doesn't give them the right to win anything anymore than the 60,000 people who flock to see the Spice Girls have the right to expect them to be good.

Why should Sam Allardyce have succeeded where people like Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Ruud Gullit and Bobby Robson failed - even Joe Harvey couldn't win the title in the old days. As I've posted before Newcastle fans demand a certain style of play, which Sam Allardyce couldn't deliver, they also have trouble grasping the fact that it helps if you have some defenders who can defend. When I look at Newcastle, and I say this as a West Ham fan who has seen four Newcastle players join us in the last year, I think to myself who would make my team better by leaving Newcastle? At the moment I would say James Milner and Steven Taylor are the only two.

Alan Shearer is apparently out of the country finishing his U.E.F.A coaching badges at the moment. I can't see Shearer starting his mangerial career lower down the leagues like Paul Ince, Roy Keane and Dennis Wise who were playing contemporaries - it looks like big Al's coming home.

I've posted about this one as well, Paul. I think we more or less concur on the subject. I must admit I've not thought of Spurs fans as being deluded but up here there are hardly any. Geordies, like supermarket trollies, seem to get everywhere.

I'm not a great football fan...granted but I know a gentleman when I see one...someone that deserves respect so when someone like Bobby Robson is treated as he was(and lets be honest)some of the finest managers this country has have all been given the heave ho(isn't it something like 8 or 9 in only a few years?

Sometimes within a few months...what can be said? No silverware in the cabinet for 50 years?

I did notice a piece of film perhaps only shown on the local news, Sam watching his team and a couple of so called supporters only a few feet away shouting at him with twisted aggressive faces and telling him what they thought of him.

We have the announcement that he left my mutural agreement but the BBC have reported him saying that up until 3 hours before he was finished he was none the wiser.

Well today Man Utd beats Newcastle Utd 6-0.

What will the supporters say now? Lets be honest its a vocal section of the supporters but there will be many that do not feel that way.

Who could blame Sam having a chuckle and saying even without me, you cannot play well and knowing that as this would probably have been the result had he stayed...he had nothing to do with this result.

This is a team with a lot of problems to solve and I know I wouldn't like to think I had to try and fix things up.
