A cheat and a coward

Hard players are part of football and football folklore, unfortunately there seems to be an increasing number of players who aren't hard but merely cowards, cheats and snide players.

Leading this bunch of miscreants is Emmanuel Eboue Arsenal's young defender. Eboue's first crime against football came in the Champions League Final in 2006 in Paris when he executed the perfect pike and forward somersault to con the referee into awarding the free kick that led to Arsenal's goal. Fortunately natural justice was seen to be done when Barcelona came back from behind and went on to win, courtesy of a player who is now Chelsea's right back. Since then he has left a string of players clutching their ankles, thighs and other body parts as he has left his leg and stud dangling just a few seconds after the tackle has been completed. We've seen it this season against Blackburn, Middlesbrough (twice and in typical Eboue style on the referee's blind side against Stewart Downing) and more infamously against Chelsea at the Emirates before Christmas. Well tonight Eboue came unstuck in front of the watching nation when he managed to tackle Patrice Evra so high and so late that you had to marvel at the cheek of the player who hung around after receiving the red card for so long that an Arsenal official had to come onto the pitch to remove him.

Eboue may one day become a half decent player however given the fact that his manager is football's own Mr Magoo I can only assume that he will be allowed to continue something I regard as the lowest of the low in football - deliberately trying to injure a fellow professional.

I love it when this happens. It's great when you finally find someone who agrees with you about a certain point. I was appalled when that free kick led to a goal in the Champions League final and last night what goes around finally came around!

It's a shame, though, isn't it? Arsene Wenger is intelligent, knowledgeable and a great manager. Imagine how much respect he'd get if he could add a bit of honesty to these qualities.

I enjoy watching Arsenal this season (it's okay I had my fingers crossed behind my back) but I find Eboue a nasty piece of work. I remember his debut when he spat at an opponent so we didn't get off to a good start!

I dislike him too. Thanks to him John Terry has been out for over two months - and all Eboue got for it was a yellow card.

I didn't see it.

(whistle)

Re the CL final, it was still a foul, the ref didn't need fooling. Re the Mnaure game everyone has said the same thing - real shame really and I presume he still had his African Cup hat on (no excuse either way)
