Bisterne Scarecrow Festival
It's that time of year again, last week in August first week in September, when the Bisterne Scarecrow Festival takes place. What began seven years ago as three or four households sticking improvisations on the traditional stickman type of scarecrow outside their front door has evolved into a serious competition.
This year there were nineteen entrants, not bad for a village that has five houses, a farm, a church and a huge football field. That's because the entrants now come from the villages of Bisterne, Kingston and part of Ringwood - they all have one thing in common and that's the fact that they are on the Christchurch-Ringwood 'B' road. The winning entry is above, for those of us of a certain age it will bring back memories of the Public Information films of the 70's and Petunia and her husband watch a plucky sailor falling out of his boat into the water and then climbing back into the boat only to decide to take a swim again.
Good harmless fun with any charity donations received from passers-by going to the local home for special needs.

Yes, definitely a touch of the saucy postcard in that. Great idea though...the competition that is.
Who could ever forget Petunia? What did they call her husband?
