Has He No Shame?

Harry Redknapp once said in a television interview that he had "no idea which club are scummers and which isn't," in reference to the hundred year old tradition of Portsmouth fans calling Southampton fans scummers itself a reference to the Southampton dock workers breaking a national strike and crossing picket lines to continue working. Well if you can swallow that then you can swallow the idea that an ex-West Ham player and manager can take over at Spuds without being aware of the animosity between the two sets of supporters.

Everybody loves Harry. He's the real life equivalent of the Monty Python "On me head John," character, the East End boy who made good, "the boy done good," to continue the Python reference. He's the man for your instant quote, he's the Englishman through and through who doesn't think foreigners are as good as the English at football and yet continues to sign them.
He's signed half a dozen Spurs players over the last couple of years, called Spurs supporters the scum of the earth a couple of weeks ago and now prepares to rearrange the deckchairs as footballs Titanic slips slowly beneath the waves.
Good luck H, you'll need it.

I could hardly believe this when I heard it this morning. I thought Harry Redknapp was "old school" enough to have a bit more loyalty than that.

What is the origin of the "rivalry" between Spurs and The Hammers? I've noticed it in some of your posts but never understood where it came from.

The rivalry is because they are our closest 'big club' and share a fan catchment area. Orient are geographically closer but have only been in the same division for about ten of the last 100 years.

Millwall are the most disliked, as Rod Liddle (Millwall supporter) put it "West Ham call Millwall pikey's, Millwall call Gillingham pikey's, surely Gillingham must have somebody to put down!"
