Health Matters
Had the results of my six monthly check-up last night and things have improved since I stopped trying to eat my own weight in dried fruit. The only downside is that the nurse I saw, and who I have known professionally for eighteen years, believes I am suffering from work related 'stress'. The physical manifestations of this 'stress' is dry skin on my hands, face and back and a rash on my chest that looks as if I've been under treatment by an S&M fetishist. I have to say she's probably right, although I don't like to use the word stress because that seems to over dramatise matters.
I was talking to a colleague yesterday and he said that he's the only one in our office who has never been seriously ill, he's correct having only had one days illness in the eleven years I've known him, what he conveniently forgot is that he's also the only manager I've ever known who won't take any responsibility whatsoever.
Anyway, my next blood test is in February, about ten weeks time, and I think that if I am over a blood sugar level figure of 7 I will be prescribed tablets. It's something that I am desperate to avoid, not because of any stigma (I mean I already take four tablets a day!) but because it means notifying the DVLA and my insurance companies and there's a little paranoid person in me who would like somethings kept 'in-house'.

As you've seen, Paul, my test results on Monday were good. They didn't do a second fasting sugar test : instead they did an HBA1C test which is supposed to give a longer term indication of your blood sugar level. To be honest, I'm amazed what can be done simply by changing your diet. It makes me think that I must've been on a bad diet before hand.
As for work related stress, I know just what you're talking about and I think it's so unfair. The idle sods who do nothing and, as you point out, never take any responsibility never suffer from stress but the ones who care about the job and "go the extra mile" are the ones who end up being ill.
I have the dry hands problem to such an extent that I scratch myself into worse 'injuries' than the actual dryness. Itches like f**k.
You'll have all your records on some datbase in a stolen alptop before long then?..
I'm glad about your results Shy, I was only able to post a quick reply the other day but as I know exactly what you're going through you have my good wishes.
Re work stress I agree completely -I used to think I could turn the other cheek because I was higher up the ladder, got better pay etc and to a certain extent I still think that way but I wish people would all pull together as a team. The funny thing is that Brian, the newbie who everybody finds a bit creepy, is actually turning out to be an asset because he can see exactly what's going on and isn't afraid to say so.
Span - re the records have I got some news for you!
