Well It's A First For Me
The conversion by stealth of miles to kilometres has begun! I thought I'd imagined this and so went back to take a photograph as proof of my sanity. This appears at a junction on a road that is so far down the categorisation of British roads that it's not even good enough to have a number or name!

Ok..ignore my first comment on your later post...now seems back to normal :-/
Yes, maybe their trying the wayward rural spots and slowly move 'inwards' by which time 'it will be too late and too expensive to cahnge back'.
Also, the RSPB, National trust etc are oooh so goody-two-shoes-PC etc so it doesn't surprise me.
Yes, perhaps it will happen under cover of darkness when we are knocked out by the hum!
Take heart, everyone. The sign is not a "proper" one, i.e. erected by the Highway Authority on a public highway. A sign like that one is not prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (2002) and so can't be erected on any public highway. On private land it would need planning permission if it exceeded a given area which I can't remember.
The nerd hath spoken.
