Beyond Arrogance

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

I don't care if Jacqui Smith's husband watches porn. I don't care if Jacqui Smith spends every moment of her spare time walking around the family home dressed as a dominatrix. What I do care about though is the level of arrogance and political indifference that persuades a Government minister into believing that she came claim the £10 cost as a legitimate business expenses that was incurred wholly and exclusively for the purposes of her job. What were the two films?

Actually I don't care what the two films were, the point is that this is probably the last mistake this woman should be allowed to make in public office. Abuse of power and station takes many forms, from one of the royal Princes spending thousands on impressing his girlfriend with his chopper to claims for second home mortgages, but to have the audacity to convince yourself that you can slyly slip a £10 charge for adult entertainment through in expenses is taking the piss.

Unbelievable is the word. There is a definite drip, drip, drip...now even Tory cock-ups like Eric Pickle's (whom I generally admire) embarrassing defence of his 2nd home on Question Time don't make splash headlines because the ripples are flooded over by New Labour waves!

Brown is defending her...88p plugs and all, do they think they shouldn't have to spend their salary?

I have written to David Cameron today telling him if he wants to win by a decent working majority he needs to act and put his own house in order - I told him how, it's the only way to convince the peopel, words are no longer enough; after doing this he needs to suggest a complete revamp of salary/expenses/allowances especially the 2nd home situation.

Re the salary thing I agree with what you said once before about making them take a competitive salary and that's it. I can't understand why somebody would want two houses in London or even the Home Counties, enough people commute and let's be honest they don't work normal office hours.

I'll be interested to see what DC (or his office) says, I think there's more than just the usual few people interested in politics who find the whole expenses/second homes an insult.

Yes, the 88p plug for the bath caught my attention and, as I said on Gavin's Station, I wish my employer would pay for my broadband!

P.S. Just as a matter of interest I have had several visits from the BBC Editors blog and, entrigued, I looked in on her page and saw that Í'm linked (RH sidebar "blogs that link here") I bet some of them got a shock when they arrive to my "humble abode") :-)

I wonder how long I will be there..I guess it rotates...

...and here's the proof!

I feel chuffed but it's no big deal really...wait till Gavin finds out!

;-)

You should feel chuffed, 'you're the man!' - now lend us a couple of billion quid, my new economics guru.

Hey welcome back Shy, hope things are okay in your part of the world.

Hi Paul,

Things are O.K. here. I've just had a few days of computer problems that seem to be sorted out now. I probably should be worried about the fact that I missed my computer so much!

You don't know what you've got till it's gone!
