Wow!

General Franco, King Juan Carlos, Raul Gonzalez, Lorenzo Sanz, Victor Del Bosque, Juande Ramos, Emilio Butragueno, Fernando Morientes, Jupp Heynckes, Davor Suker, Clarence Seedorf, Arjen Robben, Gabriel Heinze, Sergio Ramos - okay that's enough gloating - your boys took one hell of a beating!

6-2 in the Santiago Bernabeu and it could have been 10-2, a classic display of counter attacking. Real were so bad that Carlos Puyol managed to score his first goal for two years and Gerard Pique managed to score his first ever goal and that was from two yards after selling a dummy to Fabio Cannavaro and Iker Casillas.

Okay Wednesday night will be different, Chelsea will be stronger in the air but Barca can break like the wind and will be too mobile for the statues that are Terry, Alex and Carvallho.

Well done to Raul and Klaas Jan Huntelaar for being magnanimous in defeat, they were both brilliant and to Joan Laporta for not giving the Madridistas the finger at the end - well done.

Imagine if they didn't have Casillas! Great hyperbole (must) here:

"El Mundo Deportivo judged it as the "best performance Barcelona had ever produced". "Football has a God," added Sport: "Barcelona". Leo Messi was described as "Maradona, Cruyff and Best all rolled into one," Iniesta and Xavi as "those gigantic dwarves", and Thierry Henry in just three words: "Oh", "la" and "la". But it wasn't just the normal cheerleaders donning the pom-poms - and that was the point. "This side are better than the Dream Team," one radio pundit insisted. "Barcelona, are the best team I have ever seen," said Canal Plus commentator Michael Robinson. Barcelona were so good in fact that when El Mundo Deportivo's cover declared: "Madrid, salute the Champion!", Madrid did just that. Even mad Madridista Tomás Roncero described them as "a wonder in boots", while AS's editorial insisted: "Only in paradise can you see football like this."

Hi Span - thanks for the links. Loved the bit about the 'gigantic dwarves'. By coincidence I was reading an interview with David Villa this afternoon who wants to go to Barcelona to play with 'those two little guys in midfield'.

Can't wait till Wednesday.

Yep...I just imagine Chelsea playing the defensive & chop-em-down game...

I wanted Villa to go to Arsenal, seemed to fit the style etc.

I've noticed that several pundits/commentaters over here seem to regard Wednesdays match as something of a formality with Chelsea brushing Barcelona aside. This was, to me, a ridiculous notion and I think some of these "experts" will have egg on their faces by 10pm on Wednesday.

I hope so Shy.

Span, I think Villa would fit Arsenal's style but apparently he doesn't want to play in England.
