Oh the humanity (or come on admit it you laughed part 2)

Mr Potato Head in Happier Times

Schadenfreude: n.Pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others.

How good was that? How ironic that a team that was manufactured in the image of a cheat to lose to his current team who have also been groomed in the dark arts. There can be fewer more welcoming sights in football than that of John Terry getting all girly at the end of a game because the referee has ignored his pleas for a series of penalties.

Today we've had the bleating about how once again Chelsea have been denied the chance of progressing in the Champions League, ignoring the fact that over two legs, in fact in both legs, they were out of their depth in every department. Watching Inter last weekend lose 1-3 at Catania (that's Catania my friends for people of a certain age) you could have been forgiven for thinking that the blind and disabled XI could have pitched up at Stamford Bridge last night and won against the current Italian champions. Last night however Inter were at their magisterial best but what's more worrying, with the World Cup now less than 100 days away, is the woeful form of John Terry and Frank Lampard and the lack of game time for Jinky Joe.

When Mourinho was in charge at Chelsea they perfected the art of what is called in basketball a personal foul, in rugby union it's known as 'crossing', I've lost count of the number of times Terry, Alex or Carvalho have stepped across the path of a player or held the shirt of an opposition player in the box and got away with it. There was even a Mastercard advert back in the day when the Special One described with some relish how this particular tactic worked. Well last night football justice was served and for the third season in a row the Champions League for Chelsea ended with Didier Droghba making an arse of himself. He wasn't the only one though, Terry argued with the referee and fourth official long after the final whistle and even Ray 'the chaps did very well' Wilkins got out of his comfy chair and berated the fourth official. Talking of Wilkins has anybody else noticed the way that the once exceptional Michael Ballack has turned into the Wilkins of his generation, unable to do anything other than pass the ball sideways - what happened to the player who 'took one for the team' in 2002 so his German team could reach the World Cup Final despite him knowing he would be banned?

But enough of the losers, what of the winners? Well Inter have been regarded as one of this seasons dark horses in European football. Hopelessly outclassed by Barcelona in the Group Stages and seemingly sleepwalking towards another Scudetto until fairly recently they have quality, technical nous and experience. When they want to be they are by far the best team in Italy and they could easily make the semi-finals if they get a decent draw in the Quarter Finals on Friday. Wesley Sneijder showed last night what a great player he is going to be and if Holland could just find another 10 players with his skill, vision and commitment they might win something one day.

Writing this four hours before the final two teams of the Quarter Finals this year will be known I think we should see two clubs from England and France (Lyons and Bordeaux), plus one from Germany (Bayern), Russia (CSKA Moscow), one from Italy (Inter) and one from Spain (Barcelona).

Oh and a final word on last nights game, well done to Carlo Ancelotti for saying that the better team won. Too often we see losers blaming everybody and not acknowledging the better team won, well done!

yes, I laughed; not good really but as it only seems to be English teams that knock out Arsenal I'm even happier.

Out of Lyon, Moscow, Inter, Bayern, Man U and tonight presumably (as I write!) Barcelona or Bordeaux I'd want anyone but Man U or Barcelona.

I remember, a few years ago, there was an advert that featured "the special one" giving a team talk and using a flip chart. I'm sure I heard him say "we have to block the 'keeper". Is this the one you mean? It always struck me as odd that he would broadcast such a dubuious tactic.

And then there's the steward... ...

That's the one Shy.

I think Barcelona are the team to avoid. I'd like to see an Arsenal v Barcelona final.

Of course on Friday we get the semi-final draw as well.

Tonight it's some big Italian team v that London corner-shop owners XI.
