World Cup 2010 Group D

Harry Kewell relaxes during training

The country that gave us Bach, Beethoven, Kraftwerk and Goethe (among others) against the country that have us Kylie, Jason, Henry and Mrs Mangle. Yep, it's that group that contains, Germany, Serbia, Australia and Ghana - the homes of war criminals, war criminals, criminals and eh, war criminals.

Everybody knows about Germany, the footballing team not the country, however useless they look in qualifying, however useless they look in the group stages, however useless they look in the second round, they will inevitably pitch up at the Quarter Final stages. Australia were unlucky in 2006 to be eliminated under very dubious circumstances to the eventual winners Italy (you were right Span!). Serbia have half a dozen reasonably good players whilst Ghana (the black stars) will suffer without the powerhouse that is Michael 'the beast' Essien.

England's next round opponents will come from this group and given that we are expected to win our group then I would think it would be Serbia we face in the Round of 16, although I note that some pundits are tipping Ghana to finish second.

Some facts about Ghana:

Rainy seasons are April - June and September - November in the center and south; March - September in the north.

When to Go: The best time to visit Ghana is December to February.

Currency: The Cedi.
