Funny Old Game

I like Roy Hodgson, he'e one of football's nice guys, a man with intelligence and a habit of considering what he is going to say before he says it, which is a rarity in today's media saturated world. That said his appointment as Liverpool's new boss seems a bit strange, his profile may be high at the moment because of Fulham's run to the Europa League Final but isn't he a little dull for England's biggest club?

Liverpool don't have much money to spend on players and he will have to try and persuade Torres, Gerrard and Mascherano (to name just three) to stay at Anfield and at least give his ideas a try. Benitez spent five years going nowehere to be honest, one Champions League win, courtesy of AC Milan losing the plot rather than Liverpool winning it, an FA Cup win (courtesy of Marlon Harewood missing from six yards) and a second place in the Premiership. That said Benitez is now manager at the European Champions, how bizarre is that?

I hope, despite my reservations, that Roy Hodgson does well - he's one of football's nice guys, he's certainly served his apprenticeship around Europe and it would be nice if an Englishman could actually win something as manager.

Agree wholeheartedly with the last paragraph but my spidey senses tell me he won't deal with the super egos. Fulham have some great players but none are "super" celebrities like the Liverpool crew.

I agree with your agreement! He's not really had to deal with big egos, apart from Paul Ince of course at Inter.

I think it'll go one of two ways. Either he'll turn them right round and they'll start winning things again or it'll go belly up. I would love him to succeed because, as you say, he is one of the nice guys.
