This is Nicole, a 21 year-old dancer turned model who I spent two hours shooting on Saturday morning. Nicole's from the model school that says if you smile you won't be taken seriously, which is a shame because she did have a great smile - although Janis said that in the photographs where she did smile she looked about fifteen.
The idea for the pose above was hers, she said she wanted to avoid the usual nearly topless cliche where the model looks like she's grabbing her boobs. I was a bit worried she wasn't going to turn-up to be honest, she'd cancelled a shoot with another photographer the previous week, but her side of the story had less to do with her attitude and more to do with the attitude of the photographer whose motives seemed less than honourable!

Personally, I'd have thought it would've been better if she had smiled. I think everyone looks better when they do.

I agree Shy - problem is that so few models will smile these days, they've seen fashion models on TV looking all sulky and think that's how they should look to get more work. Unfortunately her personality doesn't come through in the shots where she doesn't smile.
