Sam

This is Sam. Sam is eighteen years old and desperately wants to make it as a photographic model. I had a shoot with her last Monday night and in the great tradition of newbies she brought her Mum with her. The shoot was arranged fairly quickly but Sam is of that generation who firmly believes that if she isn't talking to somebody by e-mail, blackberry or whatever he brain will stop functioning and so from first contact to picking her (and her Mum up) there were eighteen, oh yes count 'em e-mails.

The shoot went well, her confidence grew over the time we had together and I think she could have a career in modelling if she continues to work as hard as she is at the moment. This was her first studio shoot, although she'd had two outdoor shoots the previous weekend and she had one arranged for every other day last week.

As a bonus it transpired that her Mum also wants to do some modelling, although she's not really built for fashion, and she'd like to try art nude. It seems funny (or perhaps it's just me) but there are a lot of women out there who want to see what they look like in print without any clothes on, there's a whole new avenue opening up.

It seems to me, and I may be wrong of course, that modelling is a bit like these TV talent shows of which we see so many these days.

No matter how much talent you have, if the people calling the shots don't like what you've got then you aren't going to make it. It seems to me that most of these people are only interested in what will sell and not necessarily what is good. It's a shame things are so subjective but I suppose it's human nature and there's not an awful lot you can do about it.

Spot on. I've worked with some really talented models over the last eighteen months or so and only two have managed to turn professional.
