Health and Efficiency.... It's Good News

Okay the visit to the hospital took place this morning and in the end what had begun with tears on Sunday ended with laughter. Having given blood, had my blood pressure taken, heart monitored, reflexes and eyesight checked, reactions tested, limbs poked, prodded and pulled about it turns out that I have a virus that has attacked the nervous system on my left side affecting my leg more seriously than my arm.

At the end of the examination and prognosis I apologised to the stroke specialist for having wasted time for him, his assistant and the nurse who were present. He told me I hadn't wasted anybody's time and given the circumstances and the original examination in A & E the correct procedure had been followed.

The virus apparently had attached itself to the cold virus that I had recently, hence my initial reaction to thinking anything was wrong. He explained that in some people it manifests itself in backaches or headaches, I told him that since my heart problems in 2003 I hadn't actually had a headache for seven years, something I put down to the asprin I have to take every morning. He said that given the root cause of my heart problem (a viral infection was the initial cause) it's something i am obviously susceptible to.

What a relief!

I know the NHS sometimes gets a bad name but I can't praise them enough for addressing this problem so quickly and for offering transport to and from the hospital because I wasn't allowed to drive until the situation had been fully investigated.

Phew!!

Collective sigh of relief all round. Well, it would be all round if it was collective so I am repeating myself but you know what I mean!

I agree with you regarding the NHS. They were great with my wife this year.

"My leg felt heavy and yet numb at the same time..."

I get this all the time but presumed it was becasue I'm a fat bastard that no longer gets enough exercise, has a sit-down job, bad circulation and worn hips that are overdue a change...maybe I need a check up!

Glad you turned out OK! ;-)
