Simply The Best

At around 10:30 on Saturday night I turned to the other members of the family present and said, "I think we've just witnessed something very special."

Barcelona had dominated Manchester United in every department and Lionel Messi had shown the world that he really is the best player current;y playing the beautiful game. Apart from the opening ten minutes and a brief period when United were chasing the game at 3-1 down there was really only one team in it and watching the closing minutes my mind wwandered back to Athens in 1990 when AC Milan beat Barcelona 4-0 in the last most one sided final.

Barcelona have had their critics, people have said that La Liga is basically a pub league with two good sides in it but they answered those same critics with a devastating display of passing and attacking football. It's a great time for the Iberian peninsula at the moment: World Cup, European Championship, European Super Cup, Europa League, Balloon D'or, Golden Shoe and now the big one.

I missed the second half as I was boarding the plane from Bogota to Sao Paolo...OK, enough of that! Saw the first half and thought that despite Barça being better, and after Rooney's goal, Manure would do what they always do...but I missed the best bit. Stats say it all (68% possession, 13 shots on target to ONE, 6 corners to NONE etc.) Will be watching the vid when I get a chance but even though Messi always gets singled out (and why not!) this game also had Javi at his sublime best. Without those two FCB are just another team (yeah yeah Iniesta blah blah blah...but no)
