Well there it goes, wearing it's knotted handkerchief on its head, this years two week holiday. The first we've spent at home since 1994 and what an interesting fortnight it has been: riots in London and other parts of the country, Cooky scores 294 against India, record prices for gold, record drops on various financial markets, tough sentences for rioters, record passes in A levels, Barcelona beating Real Madrid, West Ham losing to Cardiff, England losing to Wales and the floods on Thursday.
The floods were interesting because we were in Bournemouth when they started, Nathalie was collecting her A/S results and because of parking restrictions for the air show we had to drive round the town and were just meeting her when the rain came down it was spectacular although we didn't realise at the time how spectacular it would get over the next few hours. In one of those isn't life strange moments I was actually reading a chapter in the book "Paris Under Water: How the city of light survived the Great Flood of 1910," when I was told our patio was flooded. The story of how the water in Paris rushed through the cavity's that had been created by the excavation of building material seems to come alive as television and radio carried stories of drain covers being pushed up through buses, craters being created as sand shifted into the sea and the closing of the beaches due to health concerns.
I realised last night that this was also the first holiday I can remember where I didn't take a single photograph, two photo shoots I had planned had to be cancelled, but I did shoot some videos during our days out. England looks pretty good in August and there's something to be said for being able to sleep in your own bed every night.

Knotted handkerchief = Monty Python, I can't shake that connection and I half expected a photo/post of the fallen Red Arrow!
Well...apart from all that I hope you enjoyed your hols!
I must admit, knotted hankies mean Monty Python to me as well. It's the same when I hear someone described the poverty of their youth : I get an urge to say "Luxury!"
No holiday away for us this year either, Paul. Two years ago we stayed at home and just went away for days. In the North East there is actually quite a lot to do and parts of the Northumberland coast are wonderful. As you so rightly say, there's nothing quite like your own bed!
