I've only just recovered from the shock that a short arse is going to play Jack Reacher but the news that Point Break is going to be remade has been banging my head on the desk Basil Fawlty style.
Along with Thunderbolt and Lightfoot this has to be one of the great Homo-Erotic movies of all time. It's Keanu Reeves best performance, it's Gary Busey's best performance as an adult and it's the late Patrick Swayze showing that there was more to him than eye candy. Oh and it has the scariest scene in movie history featuring a lawn mower.
I love this film. It's got surf, the Ex-Presidents, Lori Petty, meatball sandwiches and the Chilli Peppers in it as well. It's also the only decent buddy movie directed by a woman and Kathryn Bigelow gets everything spot on.
Apparently the remake is going to be set in the world of international extreme sports - that's probably code for Justin Bieber's weekly visit to his hairdresser.
I know we shouldn't get precious about art because every generation needs to fulfill it's quota of good, bad and indifferent but this film is twenty years old and it still stands up to repeated viewing. Of course the producers could have made the remake under a different title with a different twist but that would have taken too much creative input.

I saw this again only a couple of weeks ago. Still good and still thoroughly enjoyable and doesn't even appear too dated; I agree with everything you say re Reeves and Busey's best films although the latter was OK in that Steven Segal one on the warship.

Yes Busey is good in Under Siege, although my memories of that film seem only to feature Erika Eleniak for some reason!
