Whilst idly browsing the Interweb I came across an advert for a reel-to-reel Sony tape recorder for sale, there was a picture of the recorder followed by the following description:
This is a Vintage Sony TC-907 Reel to Reel Recorder Player.
This unit has obvious battery leakage problems.
I cleaned up some battery residue from the battery compartment but there is still some left and some on the inside.
The tape player runs and the speaker makes noises but tapes do not play. Play, record, rewind, and fast forward buttons work.
I admire the honesty of the seller, let's face it if it was a horse you'd shoot it but for just £39.99 you can have a plastic box with the word Sony written on it which you then have to invest time and probably money in getting it to work. Of course a machine with speakers that make noises and tapes that do not play sounds like the perfect recipient for a Government grant to encourage work in the arts.
