This is Michael Phelps sinking a 159 foot putt yesterday at a pro-am event in Scotland yesterday. Phelps plays off a 24-handicap, which is the same level I was at all those years ago before back injuries caused my chiropractor to advise against any future good walks being spoiled*. The beauty of the handicap system is that it allows us mere mortals to compete on level terms (at least in terms of scoring) with professionals on the golf course, making golf unique in sport as far as I am aware.
How the Americans could have done with somebody who could sink this type of putt last weekend.
* A reference to Mark Twain's famous quote about golf being a good walk spoiled.
