Trolley dash at Footballers R'US
Loic (pronounced Lo-ick) Remy was a boyhoood Arsenal fan and at one point over Christmas was looking forward to joining them. Newcastle then became favourites to sign him when it was announced they were willing to pay somewhere in the region of £60,000 a week. Then lo, the Saint of Sandbanks, the Saviour of the South Coast did step forward with a pile of somebody else's money and Remy suddenly decided to eschew the frozen wastelands of the North and settle for £70,000 a week in West London.
Best rumour of the weekend was the one that appeared in a well known tabloid whose slang name is 'currant bun'. Apparently Man City were preparing a bid for Neven Subotic, the Dortmund central defender, should the appeal against Vincent Kompany's red card go tits up. As rumours go it was a classic (in the wrong sense), Subotic signed a new contract last Monday (7th) up until 2016 (when he will be 27) and then managed to get himself injured last Tuesday (8th) whilst taking part in a friendly in Spain during the Bundesliga winter break. Subotic tore muscle fibres in his right calf and now won't play until early March. Now if I know this why doesn't some dozy journalist know it?
