I've lost my inner Mrs Thatcher

and discovered my inner old man.

From my teenage years through to what seems fairly recently I managed to get by on four or five hours sleep a night. I have no idea whether it was too much adrenalin, over tiredness or simply some freakery of nature that made me share the most famous daughter of Grantham's sleeping patterns but it worked. Recently however I seem to have slipped into a habit of needing an afternoon 'nap', well at weekends at least, during the week would just be wrong given that I am at work.

Matters came to a head last weekend. I had two meetings with clients during the morning/early afternoon which meant that I finished my working week around 3:15 and went home rather than going back to the office. Once at home I fell asleep for three hours. Saturday afternoon I fell asleep mid afternoon again and again it was for the best part of three hours, the pattern was repeated on Sunday. I know that part of this could be put down to the talk of mergers etc and the worry that is causing, even if just subconsciously, it could also be down to the lack of sunshine over the past month but it's not such a recent phenomenon when I think about it. It's not down to lack of exercise either, perhaps I have just reached that point where putting on a cardigan, opening a bag of werthers originals and slipping on a jazz compilation CD have replaced the youthful need to burn the candle at both ends and most of the middle.

finishes with a giggle but it's a serious matter. EWE need sleep and I am already like you are. I get 2 to 3 hours max before waking up; I can then go back to bed for another 2 or 3 but very rarely get a solid 4. That said, last week I did after a foot massage and two bottles of wine! Every place I travel to has their own methods and remedies all of which I try, needless to say none of which have the slightest effect!

that EWE should be 'We'! Counting sheep doesn't work either!

I've read that not having a clock in the room helps but to me that would just mean more restlessness worrying about the time I couldn't keep an eye on.
