21st June - Dorset Day
Today is 'do it for Dorset day' - which could be one of those excuses simply to do something stupid and tag 'well I did it for Dorset' on the end.
Sighting of the Dorset flag are more prevalent in the west of the county, I think this is because Bournemouth and Christchurch have only been Dorset since 1974 and there is still, believe it or not, some resentment from older people that they were forced to move counties.
Anyway among the more public displays of 'do it for Dorset day' today are 'dress down Fridays' (presumably at places where this isn't the norm), various sponsored events and a couple of celebratory gigs.
I have no idea whether or not other counties have designated days but I suppose that in these times where the sense of loss of community is one that people feel most acutely anything that brings people together in joint celebration can't be a bad thing.
