The contracts have been signed, subject to the solicitors earning a few more pounds insisting on some additional clauses, and the official date for the merger has been confirmed as 31st July. That means that on 1st August 2013 I will begin working for a new employer (although under current employment legislation it is continuous employment) exactly thirty six years after I began this long dark tea time of the soul working in accountancy.
Thirty six years is longer than two of the people I work with have been alive and more worryingly its more years since my new audit boss has been alive, man you feel old at times like this. So many things have changed, in a practical way, over that great period of time that I can't even begin to contemplate most of them - I know I have posted about this before so I won't hive part of the blog off into a sort of blog version of Dave TV and repeat it all.
There are plus and minus points, the plus points (which I have tried to console myself with) is that (a) I have a job (b) I am paid well and (c) I am good at it. The minus point is that it still isn't the job I wanted to do when I left school and worse still I don't know what that is!
Received a phone call asking what I would like put on my new business cards, I resisted the opportunity to have 'supreme being' printed and said Audit Manager - unless they have another job lined up for me. A few years ago when the practice was re-organised I was offered the title of 'Audit Supremo' which I turned down on the basis that it sounded too much like a choice on the businesmens menu of the local Pizza Hut.
