Upwards and onwards
One of the biggest shocks of the summer transfer window so far has to be the transfer of Kyle Lafferty from FC Sion to Palermo. Lafferty has been mentioned here before, the lifelong Rangers fan who buggered off at the first sign of financial problems to seek pastures new.
Well it seems after just one season in the Toblerone League he is off south, over the Alps, down the whole length of Italy, across the Med to the capital of Sicily and try his luck in Serie B.
On his move he has said, "I'm delighted to be here, Palermo tried to sign me in January but unfortunately we couldn't close the deal. Now I can't wait to get started.'When I was younger I watched a lot of Italian football and I know there's a very passionate fanbase here at Palermo.'
Lafferty was a huge source of frustration during his days at Ibrox for many supporters, he had a pretty good goalscoring record considering that he was around during the Kris Boyd/Kenny Miller era but his touch sometimes let him down and he was one of those players who constantly had the look of somebody who couldn't handle the pressure that is part of being a player at Rangers.
Palermo were relegated from Serie A at the end of May and have just appointed a new coach, a certain Mr Gennaro Gattuso, previously of Rangers and of course one of FC Sion's eight head coaches during the last calendar year. Here's hoping that the Palermo-Gattuso-Lafferty relationship can last a little bit longer than their previous player/manager relationship did.
