Happy Birthday Lynda Carter

If you were a teenager during the early to mid seventies, Saturday evening television meant Grandstand, followed by either Basil Brush or Wonder Woman, then The Generation Game, Saturday Night At The Movies, Cannon/Ironside/Starsky & Hutch then Match of The Day and bed.

Tucked in between Len Martin reading the classified football results and Bruce Forsyth asking Anthea Redfearn to give us a twirl, was an American Super Hero series that featured a woman in the lead role. Dressed in the sort of outfit that would normally get you arrested, a former Miss U.S.A, Lynda Carter bounced (literally) across our television screens for four years from 1975-1979. The famous costume was such a tight fit that she had to be sewn into it before each days shooting. The stories may have seemed implausible, the acting not the best and the special effects very limited but for boys of a certain age it wasn't a bad way to spend forty minutes or so on a Saturday.

Today is Lynda Carter's 55th birthday - so happy birthday Miss Carter.

I thought wonderwoman was absolute tosh. I think she was a boy thing. Lee Majors and you were talking but then I suppose he was a girl thing!

I'm a little bit young for wonder woman as fantasy. I do remember watching it for the thrill of the adventure though.

Sad thing though is that despite her being the perfect boyhood fantasy in the 70s, she'd be considered a little bit rounded these days. I can't imaging today's wonder woman having thighs like that.

Mores the pity Six. Better to saved by those thighs then by a woman with legs like a pigeons

Ah, Yes! Wonder Woman.

I'll probably be denounced in some way for saying this but....

When I were a lad they had proper women!

P.S. Anyone seen the current Special K advert?

Denounced in some way Shy? For liking a larger lady?
It is interesting this whole thing about ideal female shape and from whose perspective.
I know i used to feel happy when technically under weight as I liked looking like bean pole ( though I was always a bean pole with hips and arse - most odd!)
Although I now realise I am more attractive to males with curves I still struggle with looking at them myself.

Lucy,

I have come across, in the past, those who would take issue with me for expressing any sort of preference in terms of the female form. For some people, it seems, these things are out of bounds. It's almost as if "fit is a feminist issue". Anyway, I'm glad my fellow bloggers take a wider view.

Well Wonder Woman hit me a just the right time and I found myself utterly smitten so file this under preaching to the converted. Watching it again recently the old interest was still there but a realisation of just how awful the show was in reality was a bit of a shock.

Along with Debbie Harry these were the ladies of my formative years. (Is that oblique enough?) I profess a deep fascination with the latest Special K woman as well. She is just simply stunning. Thank God for Sky+.
