FROM MICKEY ROURKE TO MICKEY ROURKE IN 29 MOVES

(and why I shouldn't stay up half the night)

This is my own version of the six degrees of separation game, it's called Baldy's Cinematic Ramble.

Okay...deep breath...................

The role of Jack Cates in 48 Hrs was turned down by Mickey Rourke and played by Nick Nolte.

The role of Indiana Jones was originally written for Nick Nolte but he turned it down and it was played by Harrison Ford

In Terms of Endearment the role of Garrett Breedlove was turned down by Harrison Ford and was given to Jack Nicholson

Jack Nicholson turned down the role of Dick Tracy and was replaced by Warren Beatty

Beatty had replaced Frank Sinatra in The Only Game in Town by after Sinatra argued with the director.

Frank Sinatra and Paul Newman were asked to play 'Dirty' Harry Callahan when they turned the part down Don Siegel approached his old friend Clint Eastwood.

Clint Eastwood was first choice to play rambo in First Blood - the part went to Sylvester Stallone.

Beverly Hills Cop was written as an action movie for Sly Stallone. When Stallone turned it down it was re-written for Eddie Murphy to play Axel Foley.

Eddie Murphy was going to play the role of the Grinch in How The Grinch Stole Christmas but the role went to Jim Carrey instead.

Jim Carrey was considered for the role of Rick Gassko in Bachelor Party but the role went to Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks turned down the part of Lester in American Beauty - the part went to Kevin Spacey who won an Oscar.

Kevin Spacey was considered for the role of Inspector Clouseau - the part went to Steve Martin

Stanley Kubrick wanted Steve Martin to play the part of Bill Harford in Eyes Wide Shut - the part went to Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise was considered for the part of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors - the role went to Val Kilmer.

Val Kilmer turned down the lead role in Interview With the Vampire - the role went to Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt turned down the role of John Grady Cole in the film version of All The Pretty Horses - the part went to Matt Damon.

Quentin Tarantino offered the part of Butch to Sly Stallone and Matt Damon who both turned him down the part was then offered to
Bruce Willis.

Bruce Willis turned down the role of 'Sands' in Once Upon A Time in Mexico - the role went to Johnny Depp

Oliver Stone considered Johnny Depp to play Private Chris Taylor when Depp was young and still unknown. Who got the part? Charlie Sheen

Charlie is the son of Martin Sheen who auditioned for the part of Michael Corleone in The Godfather - the role went to Al Pacino.

Al Pacino was considered for the role of Willard in Apocalyse Now - it went to Martin Sheen.


Martin Sheen could not play the part of General Lee in the second film of Gods and Generals because of The West Wing - his role went to Robert Duvall.

Robert Duval was considered for the lead role in Silence of The Lambs but the role went to Anthony Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins turned down the role of Alfred in Batman Begins - the part went to Michael Caine.

Michael Caine turned down the role of Gerald in Ken Russell's Oscar winning Women in Love - the role went to Oliver Reed.

Oliver Reed was considered for the role of Lonnegan in The Sting but the part went to Robert Shaw.

Robert Shaw had a part in the film Robin and Marian alongside Sean Connery

Sean Connery starred alongside Kevin Costner in the film The Untouchables

The Kevin Costner role had been turned down by Mickey Rourke

I really ought to get a life.

WHat I posted was taht I bet all these actors remeber all the roles they turned down - especially the really famous multi-film ones (Indiana Jones etc)

This blogging can get a bit silly really. Sometimes I have to tell myself to stop, that it isn't iportant in the slightest...and then I find myself apologising to you regualrs about the lack of posts! Like you care!!!!

WEll done though, that's a fine display of trivial brainpower and film buffery, Sir!
