Celebrations..Albeit Quiet Ones

The deaf people of Cambridge were today celebrating the repeal of a five hundred year old law that has prevented two deaf people marrying each other within the city boundaries. The law which came into effect way back in 1547 was the result of an argument between Sir Thomas More and Henry VIII over whose voice could be heard the farthest across a foggy Granchester Meadows. As a punishment for his impudence More was banished from the city and deaf people were banned from marrying one another within the walls of the city.

Sir Tim Westmoreland, a spokesman for the Cambridge Religious Assimilation Programme, said it would prevent hundreds of couples having to leave their city each year to marry in neighbouring parishes and, in some cases, towns. "There has been a steady influx of people from Romania since January," he said, "many of them deaf and in love, this will allow them to marry in our superb cathedral."

I can't tell whether or not you are taking the mick :-)

Anyway, it was my attempt at an April fool but nobody posted a reply on the 1st so I guess nobody read it or if they did they weren't fooled.

Well - I was fooled. I thought it was genuine and ...I wasn't taking the mick.

All laugh at me!

No it's cruel to laugh. I'm glad you found it interesting to be honest. I obviously have a very strange mind!

Not a strange mind at all.
