I'm off to Paris for a week with the family. I have to get myself out of the 9-5 mindset and have taken an extra couple of days off before travelling on Eurostar. I try to be spontaneous but working in a structured environment 5 days a week from 8-5 tends to influence my way of thinking, which means that spontaneity must have a purpose!

We have rented a studio apartment in the 11th, which probably doesn't mean much to anybody outside Paris. Just to say that the Marais was the last part of the city to be developed, Marais comes from the French word meaning swamp and the area is a popular haunt of media and arty types, Jewish people and Gays. We are also close to the Belleville district which is home to Chinese, Vietnamese, North Africans and people from the Middle East, I can't say we won't be experiencing a variety of cultures during our stay whilst trying to be tourists.

Having spent Easter in London I now have the chance to spend a week in Paris and compare and contrast - oh dear, the accountant in me is slipping out!

Have a lovely time Paul.

Do go to Parc Des Buttes Chaumont in the 19th. It is a breath of fresh air, peace and tranquility with fabulous views from the highest point....oh and waterfalls too but don't be tempted on the pont de suicides! It really is quite scary!

'Rented a studio apartment' or 'stayed in'. What are you smugly trying to tell us here?

My you are quite bourgeois, Baldinio/Paul? Well at least your cosy little coterie of mates think so. It is so nice on the South Coast, away from the crowds.
