What Goes Around....

Over on the Radio Two music messageboard last week a new poster complained that the board was too cliquey. Now, why does that sound familiar? Despite repeated attempts by 'regular' posters to coax the newby out of her shell she doesn't appear to want to return.

[sigh]

It's always the way. It's entirely naturally for people who get to know each other to couch their conversation in terms that reference that shared background.

It's only a problem if they cold shoulder newcomers. And in my experience that's rare. Some responsibility must rest with the newcomer to accept the welcome offered and get stuck in.

I think you're right, Gavin. There was a time when all of this was new to me but I just joined in and took whatever came. You just have to join in and be yourself.
