Boris Is Visible From Space
Okay, to the list that already includes Belgium, the Great Wall of China and Terry Wogan's bald patch you can add Boris, a dog from Bournemouth, to the list of objects on the earth that can be seen from space.
For some reason the link wouldn't work so I've copied and pasted the story from the Bournemouth Evening Echo:
Meet Boris, the bull mastiff, a dog who is visible from space. Boris lives at the Tudor Grange Hotel, in Gervis Road, Bournemouth and when his owners looked at a satellite picture on Google Maps they noticed the dog was visible.
Louise Bell, 26, who runs the hotel with her family, said: "Boris is really huge. He weighs about 14 stone but we were still pretty surprised to find out he was visible from space.
"It was quite amusing. "You can see a brown blob in the garden where he likes to lie - it is definitely him." She said that Boris, who is three and a half, is very friendly and well known by hotel guests. She added: "He often wanders out into the garden and lies in the same spot for hours."

When I looked at Google earth last August the new Wembley Stadium was still under construction...despite being finished ages before!...I wonder how often they update footage.
26 and running a hotel?...good on her!
I once knew a chihuahua dog that managed to kill a big bull mastiff like Boris...
...
...
The chihuahua got stuck in his throat.
...boom boom.
The update to this story is that those close up google earth pictures are in fact taken from a plane and not satalite;
"Google Earth uses satellite, aerial and ground-level photographs to create a virtual recreation of the entire planet. Internet users can zoom in from an aerial view of entire countries right down to ground level."

It's a few years ago that I read somewhere that "spy" satellites are capable of taking a recognisable photo of a human face so Boris would be visible from space if this is true.
Thanks for the comments. Not quite so romantic in light of Lucy's posting!
