Ugly Fruit
Well oranges may not be the only fruit but last night they were certainly the ugliest. It's difficult to remember a final where one team was hell bent on sucking the oxygen out of the occasion and that team wasn't Chelsea under Jose Mourinho.
The legendary Dutch sides of the 1970's had a physical presence, there's no denying that, but what they are remembered for is their craft, the 2010 vintage will only be remembered for their out and out thuggery. Only Arjen Robben came out of the match with any credit from a Dutch perspective and yet he still managed to miss two one on one's and have a complete hissy fit on at least three separate occasion's.
Spain might be criticised in many quarters for being all pass and no product, just as Arsenal and Barcelona are often also criticised but in the end the side who wanted to play football beat the side who wanted to play anti-football.
This Spanish side contains so many young players that you can't help thinking that 2012 in Ukraine and Poland could also be theirs for the taking. The only thing that spoiled another night of Spanish celebration was the site of Fernando Torres pulling up within minutes of coming onto the field with a hamstring problem, not a good start for Roy Hodgson's managerial career at Anfield.
Well done Spain.

I can't believe the Dutch are blaming the referee. How they got to the end of normal time with eleven men on the pitch is beyond me.
As for 2012, don't forget Germany's side was young. I think they'll do well next time.
Yes, it was disappointing to see Torres go off.
After his poor World Cup in general I bet that Torres would come on and score a fantastic winner...so it's my fault!
Two red cards would have been fair; three and nobody (except the Dutch) would have batted an eyelid.
Listened to Perry Groves on the radio on Monday night and he said he couldn't understand what the fuss was all about, this is how we used to play in England all the time about twenty years ago. Well I guess the reason people were complaining is because things have moved on.
Germany should be a good bet for the Euros.
