And finally...

Just a final post on my recent trip to Germany. As most people are aware it has become the custom over the past few years for towns or counties to advertise themselves with a large brown sign on its approaches. These signs usually have a picture in white on a brown background with a line or two of narrative, something along the lines of "Cathedral City," "Birthplace of Slavery," or in some cases simply a picture.

The administrative area of Emsland, on the north western border of Germany and the north eastern border of Holland has a picture consisting of a barn and a male cyclist who is standing next to his bike waving at two canoeists.

What on earth does it mean?

Low-lying land! Dykes liable to break; take a canoe on cycle expedition.

Brilliant suggestion. What we need is a canoe that converts to a bike.
